Handbag AND SMALL LEATHER GOODS DESIGNER - URBAN OUTFITTERS

October 2017 - Present

Responsible for all own-brand Handbag design and small leather goods at Urban Outfitters. Working closely with the buying, concept and production teams to deliver 6 seasons a year. My main roles included creating unique designs, fully detailed technical packs, and presenting to senior executives and company owners. During my time I've helped introduce new procedures and techniques to help standardise and improve the development process and product development. I managed my own assistant and also worked closely with the footwear department to ensure cross departmental developments where aligned with company strategy. 

 

 

Established Handbag Designer - ASOS

May 2012 - September 2017

The first full time Handbag Designer ever employed by ASOS, responsible for the design of a £17 million handbag department, designing across all product categories and price points, from entry to premium. Extensive knowledge of bag construction, hand drawing briefs and creating patterns, managing worldwide suppliers to produce the range, developing leathers, fabrics and hardware. Working across leather and PU with experience of developing bespoke hardware. Directly involved in creating seasonal trends including themes, key items and colours. Identifying key fashion volume shapes and trend lines for each season. Working in a fast paced, constantly evolving, results driven environment. Responsible for developing bespoke press collections, working closely with a UK handbag maker. Regular inspiration trips abroad including Milan and Tokyo. Line Manager to an Assistant Designer, overseeing their personal development and workload.

 

 

Handbag Designer - Fitzrovia

October 2008 – May 2012

Designing bags and small leather goods for brands for several major highstreet brands, including Top Shop, Miss Selfridge, Monsoon, Reiss, Lipsy, Next and ASOS. Experience designing for different customer types, price points and age brackets. Responsible for creating patterns, fabrics, trims and hardware appropriate for each design, liasing with directly with factories on a daily basis. Traveled regularly to the Far East for in country appointments, sourcing and development.

Fashion Marketing at Northumbria aims to explore fashion concepts, products and promotions for future markets. Students on Fashion Marketing engage in all aspects of fashion studies, from research into fashion markets and their customers, fashion forecasting, fashion graphics, illustration, photographic styling and promotional techniques, as well as actual design realisation projects through pattern creation and garment construction.
